The majestic Rajabai Clock Tower, which is located on the Fort campus of the University of Mumbai, bears testimony to a man’s love for his mother.
The construction of the Rajabai Clock Tower began in 1869 and it was completed in 1878. The tower was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and was modeled after the Big Ben in London. Premchand spent a princely sum of 2 lakh rupees on the tower that was a fusion of Venetian and Gothic styles and used locally available buff-coloured Kurla stone. It also boasted of the most beautiful stained glass windows in the entire city.
