Dipak Roy was born in 1974 in Kolkata, a city that has been the birthplace of many eminent artists. He is an entirely self taught artist. His current series of works are based on the Indian Classical Dance form- Kathakali. The artist says, “I am fascinated by the vibrant green colour on the face and the brightness in the eyes of a Kathakali dancer”. He has a very realistic approach, he has given utmost importance to the portraits- expressions, make-up, decoration, mudras, ornaments and more. His colour palette is very bright and gorgeous. Acrylic on Canvas is the artist’s favourite medium, although he has painted other mediums as well. The artist is also attracted to the beautiful expressions of Odissi dance form, he would like to portray them very soon. “My aim is to capture the essence and colours of India through these compositions”, says the artist.

Dipak has been part of many exhibitions held in Kolkata and the USA like the ones in Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata; Chemould Art Gallery, Kolkata; Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata; ITC, Kolkata; Hyaat Regency, Kolkata; Shangri-la Art Gallery, USA. His works are in collection with art lovers in India & Abroad.
